THE MEMORIES

Bregje and John

When choosing a wedding photographer there was one thing we looked for: something different from traditional wedding photographs. We wanted someone that made not only the most of the people in the photo but also the surroundings as well. The reason for this was that we were leaving Amsterdam and wanted to capture the special day and also the feel of the city where Bregje grew up and which I had come to love!

We happened to come across David’s website and were immediately excited about the photos that were posted on his Blog. With a quick phone call we managed to find out David’s availability and arranged to meet so that we could find out more about his photography, and to let him know what we really wanted from the photos on the day. He brought with him an I-Pad that held the thousands of photos of all the wedding- and couple shoots that he had done and the different styles and techniques he had used in shooting them. This helped us see the high standard of work that he delivers as well as deciding what sort of photos we wanted on the day. David also took time to explain how he works not only on the day but also with regards to how he puts the whole package together. It was very refreshing to have total transparency over costs and that all photos he takes would be given to us. David’s open and friendly ambience made it very easy to articulate what we like and gave us full confidence that the responsibility of capturing our special day was in extremely good hands! This was a relief as the photos are a big part of the memories that you have when the day goes like a blur!

As we had a mid afternoon wedding David agreed to meet us 2 hours before the wedding in the Jordaan where we walked through the streets where Bregje had grown up, visiting areas that had special meaning to us as well as areas that captured the essence of Amsterdam. What became very apparent was David’s skill and experience at not only making you feel very relaxed in front of the camera but also capturing your best angle. This coupled with foresight to see beauty in the surroundings meant that every photo came out very special.

David’s ability to melt into the background during the wedding meant that we did not really notice him capturing all the important parts of the ceremony, which allowed us to focus on our day. This was the same for the reception afterwards where the natural photo’s of all our relatives and friends portray the real feeling of the party and the day.

Lastly David put a lot of attention into reviewing all the photos using his artistic skills. This meant that we received not only all the photos of the day but also different copies showing his creative artistic talent and attention to detail… when receiving the photos the beautiful and tasteful packaging summed up David’s ethics to delivering quality! In fact I was so impressed I asked David to take photos of my twin brother’s newly born daughter when he travelled to Sydney… blown away by those photos as well!

I can sum up the impact of the photos on us as well as family and friends that have viewed them… we received a card from a friend who could not attend the wedding. It said and I quote: “I wish you and your wife a life comparable to your wedding pictures: beautiful, unique, original and with smiles and laughter!” Say no more…

Thank you David for your friendliness, professionalism and advice in helping us capture our special day in such an amazing way… your enthusiasm and love of what you do is evident for everyone to see!

Cheers

John + Bregje
